Largo, Florida -- An office building was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after someone sprayed an unknown breathing irritant, causing some employees to gag and choke. Eight people were treated and three of those were taken to a hospital.

Pinellas County Hazmat was called out to the Mary Grizzle Building, located at 11351 Ulmerton Road, after several people complained of irritation inside a Department of Children and Families office.

Employees were treated on-scene, and three people were taken to the hospital as a precaution. No one was seriously injured. Most of the workers have gone home for the day.

About 200 hundred people were evacuated from the building.

Largo Police are investigating to see if someone intentionally sprayed a substance such as pepper spray or tear gas.

Eight people were hurt by an irritant at the Department of Children and Families building.
