Sarasota, FL -- Earlier this afternoon, just after 1:00 p.m., the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office responded to a complaint of an attempted occupied residential burglary at the 4800 block of Sawyer Pine Rd.
Upon deputies arriving on scene, contact was made with the 15-year-old victim who stated that he was home alone when he heard banging coming from the back of the residence.
The teen investigated the noise and saw the suspect attempting to open the back door.
At this point, the teen feared for his safety, so he armed himself with a shotgun.
The 15-year-old then fired a warning shot into an interior door which caused the suspect to flee the scene.
A perimeter was established and a K-9 track was conducted but the suspect was not located.
No one was injured as a result of the gunshot.
The suspect is described as a 5'10" to 6' tall white male wearing a black mask, black zippered jacket, blue jeans, thin to medium build.
At this time the case is currently being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Section of the Sheriff's Office.
