Pinellas Park, Florida -- A spectacular two-vehicle crash on Park boulevard on Thursday afternoon resulted in only minor injuries to the drivers.

A 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, heading west in the 6000 block of Park Boulevard, changed from the median to the center lane, where there was a 1-inch lip due to road construction, according to Pinellas Park police. After the maneuver, the front right tire of the Jetta blew out, sending the car from the median lane to the sidewalk on the north side of Park.

The Jetta went 255 feet on the sidewalk with the right half of the car on the sidewalk and the left half of the car in the curb lane of Park, according to police.

The Jetta also struck a bus stop sign, breaking the pole at the base. When the car reached the driveway of 6035 Park Blvd., it swerved left into the curb lane and the left half of the vehicle went into the center lane and the front of the Jetta struck the right rear of a 2011 Nissan truck, police said.

The truck veered left and fish tailed, and rolled onto the driver's side and then onto its roof continuing to spin and head west, police said.

After the collision, the Jetta's right front rim dug into the roadway and rolled the car onto its passenger side, police said. The car ended up on its roof.

Minor injuries were reported. Investigators said that seat belts and airbags prevented more serious injuries.

The driver of vehicle # 1 was issued a citation for careless driving. Independent witnesses told investigators that the vehicle was driving at a high rate of speed just before the crash.
