Bradenton, Florida -- Buyers beware. An 89-year-old man was held at gunpoint after trying to buy a car on Craigslist.

Now he says he's changing the way he does things when making purchases over the Internet and says it's something we should all be doing.

"Definitely a new twist to a robbery," says 89-year-old Jack Parsons of Bradenton.

Parsons says he was just trying to respond to an ad on Craigslist for a car.

Parsons says he and the buyer arranged to meet up.

"He waved his hand at me to show I knew who he was and he got in the car and said his car was at his mother's house," says Parsons.

It wasn't even a minute later, when Parsons would find himself in major trouble.

"He was sitting in the passenger seat and we went about a block away and he pulled the gun out on me," says Parsons.

Parsons says they drove a few more blocks and pulled into a driveway when the man started demanding money.

"I said, 'I don't have any money.'"

Little did Parsons know, that a police officer had pulled up behind them.

"He saw a cop and tried to get out of the car like we were friends," says Parsons.

The suspect ran off, dropping Parsons' belongings. He also left the gun inside of the car.

An alert Bradenton officer pulled over a car where a seller was being held at gunpoint.

"The chamber was full," says Parsons.

The suspect may have gotten away, but Parsons still calls Officer Jose Santos, who spotted them the hero of the day.

"He said something didn't seem right. That was the best thing to ever happen," says Parsons.

Now Parsons says when it comes to making a purchase online, he's making sure he's extra careful before making any deal.

"Don't carry cash with you and take someone else with you."

Now while Jack may be acting safer these days, the police department is trying to help with that. They will soon be adding parking spaces here designated for Craigslist transactions.
