St. Petersburg, Florida – At the Wig Out 5K in St. Petersburg, runners wear colorful wigs, tutus, and big smiles.

This is a fun-run with a wet and wild twist. "It involves foam pits, slip-and-slides, and wonderful long slides," explains Debbie Turner of the Brain Tumor Alliance (formerly Miles for Hope).

A fun run in downtown St. Petersburg on Saturday, August 9th raises funds for brain tumor research.

The run on Saturday, August 9, benefits brain cancer research. The Brain Tumor Alliance has committed to give $350,000 over a three year period to All Children's Hospital. "Brain Tumor Alliance is funding two research projects with them," says Turner. "One is a pediatric vaccine trial and one is a palliative care trial that we're doing, because brain tumors affect our children."

The run along St. Pete's waterfront starts at South Straub Park. You can register the day of the event or at the following locations: August 7 and 8, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 2561 Nursery Road, Suite D in Clearwater and August 8 from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. at FIT2RUN, 256 2nd Street N. in St. Petersburg.
