WINTER HAVEN, FLA. -- Around 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014, Polk County Sheriff's Office received a call in reference to a loud noise that sounded like a crash on CR 542 West near Jimmy Lee Rd in Winter Haven.

First responders who arrived at the scene found a white 1998 Chevy Silverado truck upside down, with a power pole that had snapped in half and power lines on the truck. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the truck, was entrapped within and appeared to be deceased.

Polk County Sheriff's Office and Fire Rescue extricated the driver and utilized life-saving measures, to no avail. It appears the truck was heading westbound on 542, ran off the road, overcorrected, hit a culvert, then hit the power pole and rolled onto the roof.

The roadway in that area is still shut down. The deceased driver has been identified as 23-year-old Joshua Mims. The investigation is ongoing.
