Clearwater, Florida -- Clearwater Police say they have arrested a man in connection to the death of a woman whose body was found near the Pinellas Trail over the weekend.

18-year-old Dewayne Xavier Jones is charged with first degree murder in the slaying of Lydia Tross. Tross' body was found Saturday in a grassy ditch west of the Trail and north of Fairmont street.

Tross had not been seen since leaving her home on the morning of August 5th.

Police believe robbery was the motive in Tross' death.

A man is suspeceted in the death of a woman found along the Pinellas Trail.

Detectives say they became aware of Jones' involvement in the case when a family member of his found property belonging to Tross in the teen's possession. That family member then called police.

Just last month, Jones was arrested by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office on drug charges. He was arrested July 19 on charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and obstructing or resisting an officer without violence. Jones was released on bond two days later.
