Clearwater, Florida -- On of the first day of classes at St Pete College's Clearwater campus, the Language Arts building was taped off after officials report a student was found dead in the bathroom.

At this time it appears the student suffered a medical issue, but Clearwater Police and the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office are on scene investigating.

The school released the following statement on its Facebook page around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday:

"We are saddened to report the loss of one of our students. Earlier today a student was found unresponsive in the family restroom with the door locked at the Language Arts Building at the campus. Emergency procedures were put in place and 911 was contacted. Unfortunately the student was later pronounced dead. The person's family has been notified. Officers do not believe the death is suspicious."

We are working to confirm the identity of the student.
