Plant City, Florida -- A church volunteer is behind bars after admitting to deputies that he viewed child pornography daily.

28-year-old Jay Bloodworth was a volunteer with the youth group at Church of the Rock in Plant City.

"He confessed to us and said, 'Yes I did it,' and he was a volunteer with kids that's why we have to be as careful as we can be," says Sheriff Grady Judd, Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Bloodworth admitted to police that he viewed child porn for the past year and a half.

"They saw something, said something and were able to do something," says Judd.

Sheriff Grady Judd says it was all thanks to other church staff who alerted police after they saw inappropriate images on one of the computers that Bloodworth used.

"There's certain people your're suppose to be able to trust with your children and that sort of breaks that trust," says Michelle Rodgers, who lives down the street from Bloodworth.

A Plant City church worker is charged in a child porn case.

Church members as well as Bloodworth's neighbors are in shock that something like this was taking place so close to home.

Michelle Rodgers says what upsets her is the free app called Kik, where Bloodworth was allegedly trading child pornography images with other predators.

"You know they have an app for everything but an app for that, it's horrible," says Rodgers.

The church pastor Jeffrey Howell did release this statement:

We are shocked and deeply grieved but thankful to the Lord Jesus Christ that He brought this into the light. The information received from law enforcement officials leads us to believe that four images were inadvertently downloaded from a personal mobile device belonging to Jay Bloodworth when it was tethered to a church computer. This computer did not have internet access and we are told that the images were acquired in Polk County. None of the images were of children who attend the church. We have been told that there is no reason to suspect that anything else occurred at this facility. We perform background checks and conduct children's safety training with every children's ministry worker whether staff or volunteer. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and we will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of our children. As this is an ongoing investigation, we have no other comments at this time. Thank you for your prayers and concern.
