Tampa, Florida -- A middle school student found a gun while walking to school and decided to bring it with him.

The 6th grade student at Monroe Middle School was walking to school on Thursday when he said he saw a handle sticking out of a white sock. He picked it up and discovered it was a gun.

He brought the gun to school and showed it to friends. Eventually a student heard about it and notified a teacher who then notified the administration and the school resource officer. The school resource officer searched the student's backpack and found the revolver.

He was charged with possession of a gun on school property, which is a felony
