Winter Haven, Florida -- A 25-year-old Winter Haven man is in jail Friday after snatching two necklaces from a woman as she shopped at Walmart.
The 69-year-old woman was shopping for flowers to put on a grave.
Winter Haven Police say Ryan Twiddy followed her through the store and when she wasn't looking, grabbed two necklaces from around her neck and ran off.
The woman is seen on surveillance video trying to follow Twiddy and told officers, "I was going to tackle him until he dropped one of my necklaces and I stopped to pick it up."
The 69-year-old victim was shopping for flowers to put on a grave.
Walmart associates and other shoppers also responded after hearing her screaming, but Twiddy was able to run out of the store and they lost sight of him.
He dropped one of them on the way out. Police found Twiddy a few blocks away. He told officers he'd been smoking meth and remembered going to Walmart, but nothing about the necklaces or the woman.
Twiddy was taken to the Winter Haven Hospital Emergency Room after he complained of chest pains. Once he was medically cleared, he was booked into the Polk County Jail and charged with robbery - sudden snatching and battery on a person 65 years old or older.
