St. Petersburg, Florida -- Hoses on some Florida school buses aren't making the grade, so Charlie Hood with the Florida Department of Education reached out to Florida Transportation Systems, Inc. in Tampa about the issue.
In a 3-page letter, the DOE states that the company sold hundreds of buses to school districts across the state that are equipped with a non-compliant air conditioning refrigerant hose.
Our sister station, First Coast News, investigated the issue and found, all of the buses were manufactured by Blue Bird and sold between 2010 and 2014.
The state is now requiring Florida Transportation Services, Inc. to bring the hundreds of buses with non-compliant hoses into line with its specifications. The company must extend its warranty on the buses for another year or offer the affected school districts an opportunity to have the hoses repaired.
Only one bus in Hardee County is impacted in our local school districts. To see the letter from the Florida Department of Education and the list of impacted counties, click here.
