Palm Bay, Florida (Florida Today) -- Palm Bay police say an intoxicated and homeless man sicced a pit bull on a group of people walking in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Following a call about a man abusing a dog, police arrived Thursday to find Kevin Millar, 38, with Romeo, a tan pit bull that is well known by the agency. Millar was taking care of the dog for a man who was in jail.
A woman at the scene told police that while she was sitting in her car, Millar walked up, let Romeo off the leash and allegedly uttered a racial slur.
In fear for the safety of two adults and two children in her car, she rolled up her windows to keep the dog out. She said Millar came to her window, tapped on it and took the dog away.
Another witness told police she saw Millar cursing at the dog, hitting it on the head and throwing things at it.
The manager of the store had police complete paperwork to order Millar to stay off the property.
Millar was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a hate crime enhancement, cruelty to animals, disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancement and disorderly intoxication.
