Hernando County, Florida -- Authorities are suspending a ground search for a 74-year-old pilot who went missing earlier this month.

"Based upon the information received from the lead investigative agency and the radar data analyzed by the Civil Air Patrol and U.S. Air Force, we feel that we have exhausted our efforts and diligently searched our ground search area," said a Hernando County Sheriff's Office spokesperson on Saturday.

Authorities believe Theodore Weiss' plane likely went down in the Withlacoochee State Forest in Citrus County after he left Dunnellon Airport near Ocala, heading for Zephyrhills.

The sheriff's office said air searches will continue.
