Tampa, Florida -- Detectives are searching for several drivers who fled the scene of a fatal crash early Saturday morning in Hillsborough County.
The Florida Highway Patrol says that shortly after 3 a.m., a 1985 Camaro was traveling westbound on East Fowler Avenue, east of Interstate 75 when it overtook and collided with another vehicle.
This impact caused the Camaro overturn, and its driver, 30-year-old Amari Williams, was thrown from the vehicle. The vehicle that Williams' Camaro hit left the scene.
Two passersby stopped and were about to render aid to Williams -- who was still in the roadway -- when two more vehicles traveling westbound on Fowler struck Williams.
Both of these vehicles also fled the scene of the crash. Williams died at the scene.
Hours after the crash, a 1997 GMC pickup truck was located abandoned off of Fletcher Avenue and identified as the vehicle that was first struck by the Camaro.
Troopers remain in search of the two vehicles that struck Williams after the first accident. Witnesses describe one of the vehicles as a white SUV.
Any witnesses to this incident are asked to contact the FHP by calling 813-631-4020 or contact Crime Stoppers.
