Plant City, Florida -- Two young children were struck by an SUV as they were walking to school in Plant City on Friday morning.
Hillsborough County Schools say the 6 and 8-year-old sisters were walking to Woodrow Wilson Elementary after they thought they missed their school bus. The bus, however had been running about two minutes late.
The girls were walking eastbound on Victoria Street shortly before 7:30 when they were hit by an SUV traveling the same direction.
The 8-year-old was taken to Tampa General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 6-year-old was flown to TGH with serious injuries.
The Wilson Elementary principal and some staff are at the hospital. The 8-year-old is a 3rd grader, and the 6-year-old is in kindergarten.
Plant City Police say the investigation into the crash continues, but at this time no citations are expected for the driver.
