Tampa, Florida -- Hillsborough Sheriff's deputies have closed all lanes on Memorial Highway between Kelly Road and Town 'N' Country Boulevard due to a downed power pole stemming from a crash that occurred Thursday morning.

Deputies say around 10:55 a.m., a 1995 Ford Explorer was heading north on Memorial Highway south of Bay Pointe Drive when for an unknown reason the driver lost control, left the roadway and hit a utility pole.

The driver, later identified as 55-year-old Theodore Tatomer of Dunedin, got out of the SUV and then collapsed. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies expect the road to be closed for the next 1-2 hours while TECO works to replace the pole.
