Tampa, Florida - Tampa Police want victims and witnesses to come forward - after a man armed with a gun threatened people in downtown Tampa. It started at Armenia Avenue and W. Kennedy Boulevard and ended across the city - the suspect was finally taken away in handcuffs at Adamo Drive and S. 22nd Street Sunday.
This man wrecked havoc on downtown. It was emotional and chaotic. There were several different scenes but it all ended here at this intersection.
Tampa police say it started as road rage on W. Kennedy Boulevard near Armenia Avenue. A man - who didn't want to be named on camera - says he jumped in to help when Andre Rivera pointed a gun at a woman and threatened to shoot her.
He says he couldn't watch an innocent person be victimized like that. He says he struggled with Rivera before he took off. He says Rivera had pepper spray in one hand and the gun in another. Recalling the incident eventually brought him to tears.
The suspect continued through downtown. Police say he threatened someone at Jackson Street and Morgan Street.
Then someone on Channelside Drive near North 12th Street flagged down an officer - saying that same suspect was pointing a gun at people. One person who witnessed the arrest said there were more than a dozen cop cars.
Neighbors in the neighborhood didn't want to go on camera but said they were surprised by the news - they say Rivera has a military background. Police say they found a loaded gun, pepper spray, loaded magazines and a knife in Rivera's vehicle.
