Port Richey, Florida -- A homeowner fought off several suspects by firing a shotgun during a violent home invasion where the suspects beat a couple and threatened a baby. One suspect remains at large.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said that three of the suspects -- Joseph Rich, and brothers Michael Reverdes and Steven Reverdes -- are in custody. Deputies say the targets of the home invasion were cash, prescription drugs and pills during the incident on Gawain Road.

Deputies say the suspects broke in during the middle of the night, pistol-whipped the woman before the homeowner fired a shotgun at the suspects. They returned fire -- just feet away from a baby.

"I woke up to them beating me," said the homeowner who didn't want to be named.

"The male inside said, I have a gun and will use it - the gun battle begins. They pistol-whipped the female and took a weapon and pointed it to the child and said they would kill the child if they don't get what they want," said Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco.

"These are street thugs. Sixteen hundred bucks, that's a good day. Anything to get them through the next high," said Nocco.

Deputies found medicine vials with names - some pills were prescription, others were in unlabeled vials - and say a woman recognized the suspects as the Reverdes brothers. "It was a targeted house by the suspects - want our citizens to realize that - not a random house," Nocco said.

Three of the suspects took off in a car, the sheriff's office said. Steven Reverdes was shot in the back by the homeowner and was found by deputies.

Michael Reverdes swallowed prescription pills, according to the sheriff's office.

"I'm at a loss for words, had to protect my family," the homeowner said about the incident.

The homeowner isn't expected to face charges. Deputies say these suspects have long rap sheets including burglary, theft, drugs.
