Clearwater, Florida -- April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and a Florida woman along with her supporters. are taking steps across the state to promote awareness.

Today, they made a stop in Clearwater.

Sadly, statistics show each year in Pinellas County alone there are 12,000 reports of abuse or neglect filed.

Jamie Krueger of Tampa took part and says she took an important step forward. "I feel so proud, proud of myself for not keeping it in anymore. I want someone else to know you can tell somebody," she said.

The 27-mile walk today kicked off at the Suncoast Center - Children's Advocacy Center, a local organization that screens reports and helps victims.

The group has walked for the past 5 years.
