Largo, Florida -- One man was arrested, and another man is being sought, in the theft of thousands of dollars worth of cigarettes from a distribution center in Largo.
According to Largo police, two former employees of the Dosal Tobacco Corporation, operating independently of each other, stole over $300,000 worth of cigarettes from the company.
Dosal Tobacco produces cigarettes and markets them worldwide under the brands Competidora, DTC, Romy, and 305's.
Authorities say they visited many convenience stores in Pinellas and Pasco counties and interviewed the owners. Their investigation resulted in the arrest of 31-year-old Scott Joseph Delemeester, who is charged with first degree felony scheme to defraud. Delemeester allegedly stole nearly $300,000 of cigarettes from Dosal.
Another suspect, 36-year-old Basem Quasem Shahin allegedly took approximately $50,000 from his route in St. Petersburg. Police say Shahin quit his job with Dosal prior to police being notified of the theft.. They believe he is now in the country of Jordan. A warrant for second degree scheme to defraud is currently being sought in that case.
