St. Petersburg, Florida -- St. Petersburg police say they've arrested the man they think is responsible for killing a 20-year Army veteran.

Floyd Lassiter, 53, was shot and killed on Thursday, May 10 when he confronted two people who were trying to steal his car.

Suspect Shirune Green, 19, was arrested on Wednesday, May 14 on an outstanding warrant charging him with first degree murder in Lassiter's death. Detectives reportedly received a tip that Green was hiding out in an apartment in the Pinellas Point Apartment complex on 62nd Place South in St. Petersburg. He was allegedly found hiding under a pile of dirty laundry inside a closet.

Authorities say Green refused orders to surrender and was bitten on the right arm by a K-9 dog during his arrest.

Green was then taken to a local hospital for treatment of an untreated gunshot wound to the upper body. Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding that gunshot wound, but believe Green may have received the wound during his struggle and subsequent shooting of Lassiter. He will then be processed by detectives before being transported to the county jail.

Detectives are still interviewing the woman whose apartment Green was found hiding in to determine her complicity in the efforts to hide him. No charges have been filed against her at this time.

The second suspect believed to be involved in Lassiter's death has not yet been identified and remains at large.
