Tampa, Florida -- The Florida Department of Transportation has installed four cameras along the 2,500 block of Hillsborough Avenue in an effort to better understand how to make the road safer.

Two sisters, who were on their way to Middleton High School, were struck by a car while crossing near the Meridian Point Apartments. One of them was killed.

FDOT tells 10 News that the cameras are recording pedestrian traffic, which will help them determine whether a crosswalk or traffic signal needs to be installed along that busy stretch of road.

The study is expected to be completed in a couple of weeks.
