Tampa, Florida - Tampa police say two people are dead, one of them a teenager, after a gun fight at Alfred Barnes Jr. Park on Easter Sunday. Two others were injured in the crossfire; they are in the hospital with life threatening injuries.
The scene was cleared hours after sundown, the crowd dispersed, and the crime tape was taken down. It was eerily quiet -- different from earlier.
"You can hear family coming, their wailing in the background. Two young people deceased on scene," said Tampa police.
Some family members were in tears after police say an argument, then a gun fight, left their loved ones dead.
"Seventeen. He was 17. [I] cant do this..." said an aunt of one of the victims. Other family members stood still, waiting, wanting to know more.
Police say Nico Crawford and Zedmon Culpepper were shot and killed in front of about 100 people, including families and children. Most people were there celebrating Easter. The family said Crawford was a father. "It is just sad, sad. Why these kids doing this, killing each other for? It is senseless killing because of these guns, because of these guns," said one distraught witness.
Culpepper was a teenager, 17 years old. "All of us are family -- that's my nephew, my brothers oldest son, outgoing loving person..."
One police officer said, "Don't bring a gun to the park on Easter Sunday. [It's] supposed to be celebrating the resurrection of Christ and this garbage happens."
Police say the other two victims are in stable condition. Also, they believe a shooter is still on the loose, armed. They're following leads.
