SACO, Maine (AP) -- State police say five members of a Maine family found dead in their apartment were shot to death. Investigators say a gun was found in the apartment and it appears someone in the family was responsible for the shootings.
A state police spokesman said causes of death would be determined by the medical examiner. Police say the children ranged in age from 4 to 12 years old.
The parents were in their 30s. State police spokesman Steve McCausland says a family friend asked a worker at the complex to check on the family's well-being.
The worker saw a body inside the apartment and called police.
Saco is a city of about 18,000 people in southern Maine, about 10 miles southwest of Portland.
