TALLAHASSEE, Florida -- Uber is an app that allows you to request a driver, pick your price, and have them drop you off -- all paid for from your phone.

Rep. Jamie Grant, R-Tampa and Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg pushed that message in a presser Monday.

They had an Uber driver from Jacksonville come over with 13,000 petitions pushing for lawmakers to vote in favor of the Uber bill.

"Since coming aboard with Uber, I have flexibility with home time. More home time with family, just overall safety that Uber has in place with the customer and the driver," said Eric Barney, Uber driver.

The House version of the bill is awaiting a second reading. Those against Uber coming to Florida mostly say it will hurt the cab industry.
