Tampa, FL --The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Office was prepared for a busy day today the start of the qualifying period for candidates running for county offices and special districts. But the morning brought an unexpected challenge when word came out that their downtown office would have to remain closed due to a plumbing problem in County Center.
"We immediately began following our emergency plan, using a phone tree to reassign all employees to one of our other three offices. We also communicated with candidates via email, phone and social media to make sure they knew to come to our Falkenburg office for qualifying today," said Craig Latimer, Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections.
As of 4:45 pm on Monday, 11 candidates had qualified for Hillsborough County office and 44 for special taxing districts and community development districts. As candidates continue to qualify, the "local candidates" section of the Supervisor of Elections' website, www.VoteHillsborough.org, will be updated.
Tomorrow, County Center will be open again and candidates can visit either the downtown or the Falkenburg office to submit the paperwork and fees required to qualify as a candidate for office. Qualifying will continue until noon on Friday.
