Seffner, Florida -- One eastbound lane is now open as well as all westbound lanes of I-4 at mile marker 9. They were closed earlier due to a semi on fire.
Initially the 2006 Freightliner tanker truck experienced an engine failure which resulted in a fire. The driver, Clay Rollins, steered the truck to the shoulder of the roadway and immediately exited the vehicle, escaping injury.
The tanker was transporting a load of citrus extract referred to as Orange Essence which was not affected by the fire.
Two schools, Burnett Middle and Brandon Alternative, were initially planning to evacuate to a nearby high school due to the smokey residue from the fire, but it was decided to keep the children indoors.
