Could the US 19 project between Gulf to Bay Blvd. and Whitney Rd. be delayed again?
Clearwater, Florida -- Clearwater's US 19 drivers are seeing changes from State Road 60 to Whitney Road as the overpasses over Seville Blvd. and Gulf to Bay Blvd. are nearing completion.
But with a project milestone looming in October -- moving ALL lanes of traffic to the new spans where there are no traffic signals -- it's time to once AGAIN consider the possibility that this project COULD be delayed.
Could the US 19 project between Gulf to Bay Blvd. and Whitney Rd. be delayed again? WTSP
Here's why: If you ask drivers, the US 19 project from Gulf to Bay Blvd. to Whitney Road missed it's original completion deadline. But, according to FDOT, that isn't the case. That's because FDOT forgives or allows for the addition of days due to unforeseen circumstances. In this case, issues pertaining to relocating utilities and weather.
As we barrel into the rainy season with daily downpours, it seems impossible that the same delay scenario won't present itself again. However, FDOT Spokesperson Kris Carson says that cannot happen because weather days were worked into the contractor's timeline. She says there is no excusable reason why the deadline should be missed.
Of course, drivers are still skeptical. With only five months until that milestone and much of the work involving painting, it's pretty hard to believe we'll be using the new lanes with no traffic signals by mid-October.
