A new Scrabble dictionary: What words should be added?

(USA TODAY) Each year new words are added to the lexicon, and over the last several, it seems most have tech-y origins: tweet, selfie, hashtag, emoticon, etc.

In an effort to keep up with the times, Merriam-Webster's The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary is getting a long-overdue update. For the first time in nine years, the trusty text will be amended to include thousands of new words — at least one of which will be chosen by a Scrabble fan.

Right now you can head over to the Hasbro Game Night Facebook page to suggest which word(s) you think need to be included in the new edition. Nominations close March 28, and on April 2 Merriam-Webster will reveal 16 finalists in a March Madness-style bracket.st time in nine years, the trusty text will be amended to include thousands of new words — at least one of which will be chosen by a Scrabble fan.

The new edition of the Scrabble dictionary goes on sale in August. The fan-nominated word will also become playable in digital versions of the game.
