(WHAS11) -- A bizarre trend is making its way around the Internet and is quickly spreading across the country: "beezin."
Beezin involves putting Burt's Bees lip balm on your eyelids to produce a tingling sensation. Some who have tried it say it adds to the experience of being drunk or high. Others say it helps to keep them alert.
Doctors say peppermint oil in the balm is what causes the sensation.
"The peppermint oil in the lip balm is a very strong irritant and can cause inflammation in the eye, redness of the eye, swelling," says Dr. Brett Cauthen of the Today Clinic in Oklahoma.
Despite being an irritant, doctors believe the trend will not cause any long-term medical issues. However, they also say using any product not specifically for your eyes can be dangerous.
