SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - A Louisiana man went toe-to-toe with an 11-foot alligator, leaving him with 80 stitches in one hand, but he lived to tell the tale.

"I've always been the kind of guy who learns the hard way," said Glen Bonin.

Bonin and three of his friends tried to move an alligator out of the way on Prater Road just south of Sulphur.

A Louisiana man went toe-to-toe with an 11-foot alligator, leaving him with 80 stitches in one hand, but he lived to tell the tale.

"(We) took our shirts off, threw it on his (the gator's) face, and we were going to come from behind it and jump on it... in the process of doing that, it spun around and grabbed my hand seconds before we jumped on it," Bonin said.

Out of nowhere, the gator snapped back at Bonin, biting his hand and sending him into a daze he won't forget anytime soon.

"It felt like someone was pulling my arm out," he said. 'I thought I was about to lose something. It felt like it lasted forever. When it happened, it was a split second, but it really wasn't. It felt like it lasted a long time."

Bonin admits it was a bit of liquid courage that made him think he could move the gator, but the somewhat graphic pictures of the aftermath show, liquid courage was no match for this beast.

"Call wildlife and fisheries, call the sheriff, call somebody, stay in your vehicles don't try to play with them or move them," he advises. "Leave it to the professionals, that's what they say."
