Tampa, FL--Willie Taggart has accepted the offer to become the third head football coach of the University of South Florida.

Sources with working knowledge of the offer confirmed to 10 NewsFriday that Taggart will leave Western Kentucky University to return to the Tampa Bay area. A Manatee high school graduate, Taggart led the Hilltoppers to back to back post season bowl game berths. In three seasons with WKU, Taggart compiled a 16-20 record, at his alma mater.

The Former Hilltopper quarterback was the running backs coach at Stanford under then head coach Jim Harbaugh, prior to being named the head coach at WKU. Under Taggart, WKU went 13-11 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Taggart was considered to be a hot name amongst the coaching ranks and was considered by many universities for their head coaching vacancies.

According to USF, no time has been set to introduce the new head coach.
