Great defense and big scoring plays of offense gave the Tampa Bay Bucs a 27-6 win over the Buffalo Bills. Tampa Bay intercepted Buffalo three times and scored two long touchdowns. The two teams combined for seven turnovers through three quarters.
The Bucs scored just before the end of the third quarter after a huge hit by Darrelle Revis jarred the ball free from the Bills' receiver. Lavonte David snatched it before it hit the ground and returned inside the Buffalo 15-yard line. It was David's second interception of the game and set up a 32-yard field goal by Rian Lindell.
The offense got off to a hot start. Two plays into the game, Tampa Bay took a 7-0 lead thanks to the longest run in team history. Bobby Rainey broke free for a huge gain and dodged one last defender at the 5-yard line before punching it in for a touchdown.
The 80 yard run got the Bucs on the scoreboard after just 18 seconds.
The game is a matchup of rookie quarterbacks. Glennon started hot but has cooled off. He threw a touchdown in the first quarter but tossed two interceptions in the second. He scrambled for his life and launched a wobbly pass down the field to Vincent Jackson for a 38-yard touchdown pass to extend the Bucs' lead to 14-3. Glennon did lead a scoring drive inside a minute before the half. He hit tight end Tim Wright to extend the lead to 21 points.
On his touchdown catch Jackson surpassed the 1,000 yard mark for receiving yards this season. It's the third year in a row he's broken that barrier and fifth time overall in this career.
Across the ball, Bucs fans see a familiar face under center for the Bills. Former Florida State quarterback E.J. Manuel has thrown three interceptions and has been sacked five times.
Lavonte David is having another great game. The Bucs linebacker sacked Manuel for a loss of ten yards in the first quarter and intercepted his then team-leading fourth pass in the second quarter. David is the first linebacker since 2007 to record five sacks and five interceptions in a season. Later in the game, linebacker Mason Foster picked off Manuel. It was his third interception of the season.
On a first quarter punt, Buffalo defensive back Ron Brooks went down after colliding with teammates trying to make a tackle. Trainers were tending to him on the field for several minutes before he eventually stood and was helped off the field.
The Bucs will play their final home game of the season next Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
