ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Tampa Bay Rays have placed right-handed pitcher Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list with an undisclosed illness.

The move, announced Tuesday, is retroactive to July 13.

Peralta, who has returned to Tampa for tests, is 2-3 with a 4.15 ERA in 43 appearances.

Peralta had said he hasn't been well since the All-Star Break last week when he was back home in the Dominican Republic, where the virus is more prevalent from mosquito bites.

A spokesman for the Rays confirms Peralta is exhibiting flu-like symptoms, but more testing will be needed to determine if it is in fact chikungunya.

There's no word on whether he will need to be placed on the disabled list.

The Rays recalled left-hander Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham to replace Peralta on the roster. Beliveau, who was 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 30 appearances for the Bulls, joined the Rays for Tuesday night's game in St. Louis.
