St. Petersburg, Florida -- Eckerd College sophomore softball player Kara Oberer's phone hasn't stopped ringing since Saturday. The texts haven't stopped rolling in.
Her game-winning pinch-hit home run in the second game of a doubleheader against Florida Southern, was only half the story. Because she suffered a leg injury in the first game, Kara couldn't run the bases. She couldn't even walk the bases, after the home run.
That's when Florida Southern pitcher, senior Chelsea Oglevie, came through with an incredible act of sportsmanship. With the help of second baseman Leah Pemberton, they carried Kara around the bases, making sure she touched each base after the winning home run.
It was reminiscent of an incident in Washington State, six years ago to the day.
"People I don't even know, are telling me how inspired they are by the story," Kara told 10 Sports. "And how awesome it is to hear that this stuff still does happen."
