Tampa, FL-- When Hillsborough High hosts Clearwater on Friday in one of the area's many Kickoff Classics, it will mark Earl Garcia's 22nd season as head coach at Hillsborough High. It also be his 29th season as head coach in his long career and over 40 years coaching football.
And he still gets excited about another season.
"When I quit looking forward to it, I'll go to the beach," Garcia told 10 News. "When I hear those waves crashing, and they're louder than the whistles, I'm going to the beach, buddy."
Times have changed over the decades. For one, football just doesn't stop and there are very few surprises on his team.
"It's a 12-month proposition. We gave our kids seven days off after the end of the season, and then we started again. So, everyone is pretty much a known entity on our team," Garcia said.
