It's a season of optimism and high expectations as the Tampa Bay Rays are set to embark on the 2014 major league season.

For the first time in the franchise's history, the payroll resides just north of $80 million, yet owner Stu Sternberg has said repeatedly this is not their way of going "all in." But with potentially the deepest pitching staff in the league and a beefed up bench, the Rays should challenge for the fifth season in the last six with 90+ wins.

For the third time the Rays posted the best record in the Grapefruit League during spring training, which is another good omen for the club. In the previous two times they accomplished that feat, they went on to win the American League East division.
