(CBS Sports) The Rays didn't just lose last Friday's game to the Red Sox in extra innings, they also lost reigning AL Rookie of the Year Wil Myers for at least two months with a wrist injury:
Myers, 23, hurt his wrist on the final play of the game, when he crashed into center fielder Desmond Jennings trying to catch a fly ball. The two collided and Myers tumbled over onto the wrist.
In 53 games this season, Myers has hit .227/.313/.354 (89 OPS+) with five home runs. Needless to say, that is a far cry from the .293/.354/.478 (132 OPS+) batting line he put up last season.
With Myers out, the Rays have been playing Ben Zobrist and Kevin Kiemaier in right field.
