Tampa, FL -- Bucs' head coach Lovie Smith had 100% participation in his team's first voluntary mini-camp, under his regime. Smith took over in January after Greg Schiano was let go.
Smith said there were mistakes, but it was an up-tempo workout that lasted close to 2 1/2 hours. He said as the season goes on, the practices won't be as long.
Guard Carl Nicks was at practice, although not working out. Nicks is recovering from a case of MRSA, and hasn't played since the beginning of last season. He hopes to be ready for training camp in July, but right now, he's still having problems with explosion plays.
"Being able to push," Nicks told reporters. "But I can still squat and lunge, and all those things. But it's the quick stuff: the power cleans, the quick agility stuff and pushing off, the bang bang, those kind of things -- I still kinda struggle with."
The Bucs will have two more days of the voluntary mini-camp, on Wednesday and Thursday.
