MIAMI (AP) - David Beckham is moving forward with plans to build a Major League Soccer stadium at a downtown Miami site.

Miami Beckham United announced Monday they'd met with Miami officials who recommended locating the stadium at a site near the American Airlines Arena where the Miami Heat play.

Beckham consultant John Alschuler said the group was ironing out details, but that everyone agreed it was the best location.

Both the city and county mayors will present their recommendation to commissioners for approval. Alschuler said a referendum will also be presented to Miami voters.

The Beckham group had previously expressed their preference for building the stadium at Port Miami, but faced resistance from a spectrum of business and political leaders.
