Tampa, Florida -- The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has scheduled the I-275 southbound on and off ramp to Ashley Dr./ Doyle Carlton Dr., (Exit 45A), to be closed beginning Friday, March 28 at 11 p.m. through Monday, March 31 at 5 a.m.
Motorist heading to downtown Tampa this weekend are advised to use caution and consider using alternative routes.
From I-275 S is to Exit 45A keep right to the Doyle Carlton Dr. exit; turn right on Doyle Carlton Dr. to Henderson Ave; turn right on Henderson Ave to Tampa St., turn right on Tampa St. to Tyler St., right on Tyler St. to Ashley Dr.
For motorist leaving downtown the Tampa, the Ashley Dr. on-ramp and the Kay St/Tampa St on-ramp will be also be closed this weekend. The FDOT detour takes drivers south on Tampa St.; west on Tyler St./ Cass St.; north on North Boulevard; west on Cypress St. and north on Howard Ave. and back to I-275 southbound.
The Gasparilla Criterium & Cycling Festival is Saturday, March 29 and races will begin at noon; however, roads will begin closing earlier in the day.
The road closures are scheduled as follows:
- 6:30 a.m. – Madison St. between Ashley and Tampa St
- 9 a.m. – Franklin St., Polk St., Tampa St. and Kennedy Blvd.
Roads are scheduled to be re-opened by 11:30 p.m.
Traffic on south end of downtown will also be busier than normal on Saturday due to a walk-a-thon at 8 a.m. along Bayshore Blvd., and another at noon along the Tampa Riverwalk. Traffic and parking will be impacted by fans arriving at the Tampa Bay Times Forum between 5 p.m. 7 p.m. for a Tampa Bay Storm game.
Drivers and pedestrians alike are advised to allow for extra travel time and to travel through the area with caution.
The following City of Tampa parking garages will be open:
- Poe Garage, 802 N Ashley Dr. - $4 flat rate
- Royal Regional Lot , 1240 N Tampa St. - $4 flat rate
- South Regional Garage, 301 Channelside Dr. - $10 flat rate
- Tampa Convention Center Garage, 333 S. Franklin St. - $1.60 an hour
