Avon Park, Florida -- A 54-year-old man was killed Thursday after his tractor was involved in a crash with a Freightliner pulling a trailer on U.S. 27.
Polk County Sheriff's deputies say based on evidence, vehicle inspections and interviews, Michael Falk's tractor was pulling a spray trailer in the southbound right lane near Old Avon Park Cut Off Road when the Freightliner came up behind it. The driver, Jorge Mena, attempted to slow down and evade the tractor, but hit the right rear of the spray trailer.
The spray trailer was pushed at an angle causing it to roll the tractor which came to a rest in the right lane and shoulder. The Freightliner came to rest in the center median.
Falk died at the scene from blunt force trauma. Mena, 50, was taken to Florida Heartland Hospital in good, stable condition. He only suffered minor injuries including neck and back pain.
