JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Tropical Storm Beryl has left roughly 25,000 people in northeast Florida without power.
Beryl came ashore just after midnight Monday near Jacksonville Beach with near-hurricane-strength winds of 70 mph. The storm is expected to continue dumping rain over parts of Florida and Georgia throughout the day.
In Jacksonville, about 20,000 people were without power. City spokeswoman Pam Roman says some flooding was reported in neighborhoods along the St. Johns River.
In Nassau County, about 5,500 people were without power. County Commissioner Stacy Johnson says some trees had fallen onto houses or vehicles, but no injuries were reported.
In St. Augustine, a Gavin DeGraw concert Sunday night was canceled just as audience members were starting to arrive. St. Augustine Amphitheatre officials said they decided to cancel as Beryl gained strength.
