People seen stranded in St. Augustine bed and breakfast refused help, officials say

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - People who were seen by Action News Jax on Friday stranded in a St. Augustine bed and breakfast refused help, officials said.

There were about 20 people, including children, who were seen in the Casablanca Inn by Action News Jax reporter Russell Colburn Friday as the area flooded due to Hurricane Matthew.

The St. Johns County Fire Rescue Department said to their knowledge the people refused help from them and the City of St. Augustine.

The people are believed they evacuated and are OK, SJCFR said.

"These people provided us an example of what not to do in a hurricane," said St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Shaver.
