Tornado does damage in Riverview

Tampa, Florida – A fast moving storm brought reports of damage Friday throughout the Riverview area where a tornado touched down.

Viewer Justin Johnson tells us that roofs were torn off and there's lots of debris in his Colonial Hills neighborhood at Rhodine and Boyette streets.

The National Weather Service confirmed late Friday an EF0 tornado touched down in the neighborhood.

The damage track was about 750 yards long and as much as 25 yards wide. 10-12 houses sustained minor damage.

Thursday's Storms:

In Land O' Lakes, high winds tore part of the roof from a home, sending metal sending into a power line. Part of the siding also went crashing into at least two cars near School Rd.

"This car got dents and bangs all over it. This one just got broken windshield and some more damage on the side," said Timmy Cano.

Besides the damaged home and car, there were no other serious injuries reported in the neighborhood.

While parts of Carrollwood got its fair share of rain, there were also reports of hail in the area.

In Temple Terrace, the big problem was at the corner of 56th and Fowler due to flooding. Because the traffic signals were out, police officers were forced to direct traffic.

In Tampa, the intersection of N. 30th Street and Bougainvillea was shut down for a couple of hours around 7 p.m. due to flooding.

In Polk County in the Fort Meade area at the northwest corner of CR 630 and CR 555, a 100-acre brush fire started due to lightning. Fire officials say they anticipate getting the fire under control by midnight. No homes are threatened. The fire is located in a very rural, mining area.

Storms also downed a tree in Tampa on Memorial Day. It splintered and crashed down on the corner of a roof, shooting right into a bedroom. Luckily, no one was injured.
