Let me tell you, I couldn’t be more excited to forecast the weather here in Tampa. This area feels like home because, in a way, it is. Since I was 10 years old I have been visiting my grandparents’ condo in St. Pete Beach. I have spent my entire career as a meteorologist working in the Southeast, from Georgia, to North Carolina and now finally Florida.
My journey started a little more than 1,000 miles north of Tampa in Saline, Michigan. After high school, I was fortunate to be able to pursue my passion for weather and soccer at the University of North Carolina Asheville. While at UNCA I had the incredible opportunity to play four years of Division I soccer with the UNCA Bulldogs while also completing my degree in Atmospheric Sciences.
Following graduation from UNCA I started my broadcast career at WMAZ in Macon, Georgia and then continued on to WFMY in Greensboro, North Carolina. While in Greensboro I served as the Chief Meteorologist for four years and covered everything from crippling winter storms to devastating hurricanes and everything in between. I can honestly say that I really don’t have a favorite type of weather because each type offers unique characteristics and forecast challenges. That said… having grown up in Michigan I have become quite fond of the warmth and sunshine here in Florida.
Along with forecasting the weather in Greensboro, NC I also met my wife, Liz Crawford. Liz, who you also see here on WTSP, and I got married in 2016 and couldn’t be more thrilled to settle in and call Tampa home.
You will most likely see us with our chocolate lab Ollie taking advantage of all of the amazing things this area has to offer. If you ever see us out please come up and say hello… we look forward to meeting you!
