Let me tell you, I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the team of meteorologists at 10 Tampa Bay forecasting the weather here in town. This area feels like home because, in a way, it is. Since I was 10 years old I have been visiting my grandparents’ condo in St. Pete Beach. I have spent my entire career as a meteorologist working in the Southeast, from Georgia, to North Carolina and now finally Florida.
My journey started a little more than 1,000 miles north of Tampa in Saline, Michigan. After high school, I was fortunate to be able to pursue my passion for weather and soccer at the University of North Carolina Asheville. While at UNCA I had the incredible opportunity to play soccer for the Bulldogs while also completing my degree in Atmospheric Sciences.
Following graduation from UNCA I started my broadcast career at WMAZ in Macon, Georgia and then continued on to WFMY in Greensboro, North Carolina. In Greensboro I served as the Chief Meteorologist for four years and covered everything from devastating hurricanes to crippling winter storms and everything in between.
In 2014 I earned my first Emmy award for my coverage of the 2014 North Carolina Valentine’s Day Snow Storm. I have held the distinction of being a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist with the American Meteorological Society since 2009.
Along with forecasting the weather in Greensboro, NC I also met my wife, Liz Crawford. Liz, who you also see on TV here at 10 Tampa Bay, and I got married in 2016 and couldn’t be more thrilled to settle in and call Tampa home.
I can honestly say that I really don’t have a favorite type of weather because each type offers unique characteristics and forecast challenges. That said… having grown up in Michigan I have become quite fond of the warmth and sunshine here in Florida. You will most likely see our family with our chocolate lab Ollie taking advantage of all of the amazing things this area has to offer. If you ever see us out please come up and say hello… we look forward to meeting you!
