ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — I was born and raised in suburban St. Louis in the town of Bethalto, Illinois. My career in television has taken me to several cities including Augusta, GA, Peoria, IL, Springfield, IL, St. Louis, MO and finally Tampa, FL. It was always a dream to be able to live in Tampa Bay, having vacationed in Florida many times throughout my life, so living here is a dream come true.

I’ve been able to do some amazing things during my career. I’ve done the national weather a few times for Good Morning America and have been a weather expert for stories reported on ABC World News. I’ve covered multiple World Series for my beloved St. Louis Cardinals and even celebrated with them on the field and in the locker room.

In the end, no place provides a happier home for me than Tampa Bay. Summer and its heat has always been my favorite time of the year. The storms and sky here are incredible during the rainy season. The endless lightning and threat of hurricanes gives me a constant feel of responsibility to keep the public as prepared and informed in as many ways as possible. I do this through clear and interesting graphics to photos and video. I also love to celebrate our beauty here every day with photos from the most talented local photographers who have grown to trust me with their work.

10 Tampa Bay has put me into a perfect position here at the station as a digital meteorologist. You’ll see me fill-in occasionally in any newscast doing the weather, but you’ll find me on digital platforms, such as WTSP.com, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, every day. With this role, I can create fun and interesting weather related content that you typically don’t see during a newscast.

Check out what I’m doing. I think you will love it. You can find me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or email me at rkearbey@wtsp.com.
