I am as close to being a Florida native as you may ever find. I grew up on Clearwater Beach and graduated from Clearwater High School in 1979. In 1984, I graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor of science degree in broadcasting. Years later, I would return to college to study meteorology at Mississippi State University.
I am an Emmy Award-winning television meteorologist. I am a radio and game show personality, who is probably best known for being the former announcer of "The Price Is Right" on CBS. I am the only announcer in the show’s 50+ year history to have worked with both Bob Barker and Drew Carey as the show’s host.
I started my game show career with Mark Goodson Productions in 1993 on "The Florida Lottery’s Flamingo Fortune" television game show. Since then, I have gone on to voice a total of nine different game show titles in my lifetime, including "Wheel Of Fortune," "Press Your Luck," "Family Feud" and many more. I was recognized by the industry, and ultimately crowned Best Game Show Announcer at the "2009 Game Show Awards" which were televised on Game Show Network.
All of this time, my true passion always was (and still is)… weather! My father built me my own home weather station when I was just a kid. Since then, looking to the skies and forecasting weather has been a real love in life.
In 2000, I completed my meteorology internship right here in Tampa and got my first dose of tracking severe weather and hurricanes with meteorologist Steve Jerve at WFLA. In 2002, I left Tampa to be an on-air meteorologist at KPSP, a CBS affiliate in Palm Springs, Calif. I quickly rose to the position of chief meteorologist. And after my tenure at "The Price Is Right," I returned to television meteorology with CBS News Los Angeles, becoming their top night-time weatherman in L.A. for more than six years.
I am also a 40+ year radio veteran who has worked at eighteen different radio station across the country, including, nearly 15 years right here in Tampa at Q105, Jo 101.5, U-92, Warm 94.9 and Coast 107.3.
There is even somewhat of an acting career to tout. I have appeared on many popular television sitcoms and TV shows including; "How I Met Your Mother," "According To Jim," "The Bold And The Beautiful," "The War At Home," "Last Comic Standing," "The Young And The Restless"… and my voice is in the Disney movie "Bolt"! I even starred in my own web series "Rich Fields Gone Wild," which was produced by production giant, Fremantle Media.
And, the whole time I was working in Hollywood, I did it with the conscious thought that one day I’d come back to live in Tampa Bay… the place that I have always called home
