Frozen 2: 10 mindblowing facts about the Disney movie

The much-anticipated sequel to the popular franchise is in theaters now.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Disney has officially released its Frozen 2 movie. While the jury is still out on its overall performance, 10News compiled a list of 10 things you might not know about the franchise.

  1. The official teaser for the movie was the most viewed movie trailer of all time, at 116.4 million views when it was released on Feb. 13, 2019, according to MentalFloss.com
  2. MentalFloss.com also reports the original Frozen movie was ranked as the 15th highest-grossing movie of all time, earning $1,276,500,000 across the world. 
  3. The visual development artists went through 122 options for Anna's wardrobe, which Buzzfeed reports were originally designed for Elsa.
  4. Buzzfeed says seven new songs were included in the new movie, two by Elsa, one by Kristoff, one by Olaf, and one from all the main cast members. 
  5. Although there is controversy over whether Elsa and Anna are technically 'Disney princesses,' the pair are among the first Disney princesses to wear pants, cheatsheet.com reports, in order to go through their big adventure through the 'Enchanted Forest.' Mulan and Jasmine are among the other Disney princesses known to have worn a version of pants. 
  6. Filmmakers worked on Frozen 2 for four years, according to Screenrant.com.
  7. Screenrant says the scene from the 'Enchanted Forest' is made of 12 - 20 "islands," or varieties of trees, leaves, and foliage used in different ways to show variety in the forest.
  8. The projected gross sales from the movie are expected to be between $90 and $135 million during the opening weekend in at least 4,000 theaters, according to uselessdaily.com.  
  9. Frozen 2 currently has a rating of 78 percent on rottentomatoes.com, with a 94 percent audience score. 
  10. At least some fans have speculated about the possibility of Elsa's character having a love romance with a woman, People.com reports. Some members of the LGBTQ community reportedly view Elsa's "Let It Go" tune from the first movie as a "coming out" anthem. Asked about the possibility, star Idina Menzel told Entertainment Tonight: “I think it’s great. Disney’s just gotta contend with that. I’ll let them figure that out."
